LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM EVALUATION
Week #2- the assignment required continued evaluation of the Desire2Learn (D2L) Learning Management System and that of another system, which I have selected Coursesites by Blackboard. Each site was to be reviewed using the following categories: CREATE CONTENT MODULES (ADMINISTRATION AND WEEK #1 -WEEK#5), CREATE CONTENT BY UPLOADING (1) WORD FILE, (1) POWERPOINT FILE AND (1) PDF FILE WITH MEANINGFUL TITLES, CREATE CONTENT BY ADDING A WEBLINK URL, CREATE CONTENT BY CREATING A NEW DOCUMENT THROUGH THE HTML EDITOR and EMBED A YOUTUBE VIDEO INTO THE HTML EDITOR PAGE.
LMS d2l Tools review-StrengthsThis week I thought the challenge would be a little less daunting. But I was still challenged. What I really liked about the D2L was the ease of creating the modules. I also like that there a variety of ways to do the same things- when you add files: drag/drop, upload, and manage files. To create a useful course design I would suggest using the manage so that you can reuse any documents for future classes. If I was not aware of this I would spend too much time redoing work that I had already completed earlier. This tool would increase my time efficiency and lessen my frustration.

LMS D2L Tools Review- Weaknesses
|
Overall I don't see much downside to the D2L framework. I like the more simple look. For some it may not seem as fancy but I need to know it is useful and how to navigate.
It was not so simple that I did not have to use some of the tools provided. I was grateful for the Atomic Learning videos, as I relied on those often for this week. Our instructor did a great demonstration but I needed to review several sections: manage files, create in HTML editor and embed a Youtube Video. |
LMS BB Tools Review- Strengths
As I continue my efforts to understand Blackboard I am coming to appreciate some of the tools. Adding items was relatively easy. All the files I had prepared could easily be added in one step. I am still learning my way around the interface but it does seem to be very robust. Adding a YouTube video was simple and so was using the HTML editor. This week was much smoother and much more successful over all.

LMS BB Tools Review- weaknesses
When I returned to by Coursesites I was surprised to see I could not find what I felt I had built the week before but then we did just build the modules this week. I am probably confusing discussions with the modules. This LMS is still a bit challenging to navigate but becoming better each time I get on and try and get around. For the average k12 student it still seems to me that it would add to cognitive overload visually. There is just to much going on all over the page.

LMS comparison & Recommendation
This week I must admit that I feel the tools were more even up this week. Adding content, files, video and links were all equally successful on each system. The overall look of Coursesites is just too overwhelming to view so I am wondering if there is a way I can eliminate some of the items so it appears more simplistic? This week for this one reason I am still happier with the D2L LMS.
